Based on the July 2017 information provided by the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity, the growth of jobs in the Tallahassee Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) is performing above the national average and just below the state average over the last 12 months. Tallahassee’s MSA includes Leon, Jefferson, Wakulla and Gadsden counties.
The table below compares the growth rate in jobs for the 22 MSA’s. The table also includes the growth in jobs for the state of Florida and the United States.
The information shows that the Tallahassee MSA added 6,604 jobs over the last 12 months for a growth rate of 3.7%. This ranks 10th when compared to the other 22 MSA’s. This ranking comes in above Fort Walton (2.7%), Pensacola (2.6%), Panama City (2.2%) and just below Gainesville (3.9%).
Tallahassee’s growth in jobs is just below the 3.8% rate for Florida and above the 1.3% rate reported for the United States. Florida added 357,000 jobs during the last 12 months.
The Sarasota-Bradenton MSA led Florida with a 5.7% growth in jobs followed by Sebring and the Villages. Sarasota -Bradenton added 18,844 jobs over the last 12 months for a growth rate of 4.9%. Homosassa Springs came in at the bottom of the rankings with 1.2% growth over the previous 12 months.
