Leon Jobs Flat in March, Unemployment Rate Falls to 3.0%

The latest employment information shows that Leon County loss 57 jobs in March, 2019. One year ago Leon County loss 173 jobs. This month’s loss follows a gain of approximately 2,000 jobs in February.

The unemployment rate decreased from 3.2% in February to 3.0% in March. The decrease was due to a fall in the number of people in the labor force.

The number of people working in March 2019 has increased when compared to last year. The Leon County Jobs Report, listed below, indicates that 151,866 were working in March, 2019. This is 2,876 more than the 148,990 reported working in March last year.

Also, the labor force expanded when compared to one year ago. In March, 2019 the workforce was 156,600 compared to 154,185 last year.

At the state-level, 36,000 jobs were loss in March 2019 and the unemployment rate decreased to 3.4% from 3.3% in February, 2019.

The chart below shows that monthly level of jobs in Leon County over the last three years with 12-month average trend line. As the chart shows, the current monthly trends are consistent with the movement in jobs over the last three years.
