Leon County Loses 1,182 Jobs in December, Unemployment Rate Increases

The latest employment information shows that Leon County lost 1,182 jobs in December, 2018. One year ago Leon County lost 609 jobs. This month’s loss follows a loss of 417 jobs in November.

The unemployment rate increased from 2.9% in November to 3.1% in December.

The number of people working in December 2018 has increased when compared to last year. The Leon County Jobs Report, listed below, indicates that 150,720 people were working in December, 2018. This is 2,745 more than the 147,176 reported working in December last year.

Also, the labor force expanded when compared to one year ago. In December, 2018 the workforce was 155,615 compared to 152,175 last year.

At the state-level, job growth was flat in December and the unemployment rate moved from 3.1% in November to 3.3% in December.

The chart below shows that monthly level of jobs in Leon County over the last three years with 12-month average trend line. As the chart shows, the current monthly trends are consistent with the movement in jobs over the last two years. Also, the trend line shows a steady increase in jobs beginning in January, 2016.
