April Report: Leon Jobs, Unemployment Rate Down

The latest employment information shows that Leon County loss 616 jobs in April, 2019. One year ago Leon County gained 711 jobs. This month’s loss follows a loss of approximately 24 jobs in March.

The unemployment rate decreased from 3.0% in March to 2.7% in April. The decrease was due to a fall in the number of people in the labor force.

The number of people working in April 2019 has increased when compared to last year. The Leon County Jobs Report, listed below, indicates that 151,283 were working in April, 2019. This is 1,582 more than the 149,701 reported working in April last year.

Also, the labor force expanded when compared to one year ago. In April, 2019 the workforce was 155,474 compared to 154,626 last year.

At the state-level, 9,000 jobs were loss in April, 2019 and the unemployment rate decreased to 2.9% from 3.3% in March, 2019.

The chart below shows that monthly level of jobs in Leon County over the last three years with 12-month average trend line. As the chart shows, the current monthly trends are consistent with the movement in jobs over the last three years.
